Hriman

Nayaswami Hriman McGilloway, aka Terry McGilloway, has been teaching since the mid 1980’s. He and his wife are the directors of the Ananda Meditation Center in Bothell, WA, and its Institute of Living Yoga. Since arriving in Washington in 1993, Hriman has been teaching meditation classes, conducting meditation retreats and intensive programs year-round. He also conducts Meditation Teacher Training as part of the Institute of Living Yoga. Students appreciate not just his knowledge and insights but his humor and practicality.

A graduate of the University of Santa Clara in California in 1972, Hriman became a Certified Public Accountant in 1974. Since assuming the role of co-director (with his wife, Padma) of Ananda’s work in Washington, Hriman oversees not just the work of the Ananda teaching center in Bothell but its member-run affiliates such as East West Bookshop of Seattle, Ananda Farm on Camano Island, Ananda (residential) Community in Lynnwood, and the Living Wisdom School (offering children’s’ enrichment programs).

Master Teacher Meditation: Meditation Mind: Donkey, Monkey, or Lion?

Traditional meditation philosophy distinguishes the mind from the “I” self, but like an artist working with the tools of the trade, we can learn how to re-direct the mind’s tendencies (to identify, label, judge, evaluate, discern, and basically stress-chatter) toward the “never-mind” or the no-mind state of inner peace. Practicing the no-mind state during meditation helps you access the same peaceful, but alert state, when you need it most.

Nayaswami Hriman will share time-honored and time-tested meditation tools applicable to different temperaments and states of mind, to achieve a deeper and more consistent practice of meditation.
